2016 ArtSeen Tour Call for Artists

ARTSEEN LOGO OFFICIAL

ArtSeen Tour — October 15 & 16 — noon-5pm both days.

The time has come – we are now registering our artists for the 2016 ArtSeen Tour.  This is our 6th year, and we continue to grow and improve.   We are limiting the Tour geographically this year to only Downtown Frisco, along Main Street from Preston Road to the Dallas North Tollway.  This has been the heart of our Tour in years past, and we feel that by condensing our artists, we can make it easy for guests to see all of the artists easily.

The tour will begin at thegallery8680 and Crafted on the east end of Main Street,  and move west to Fresh Paint Studio, downtown merchants, Frisco Square, Art in the Atrium at City Hall and the Frisco Discovery Center.  We have artists in galleries, exhibits, home studios, and some hosted by downtown merchants and other out-of-the-box locations.  Collin College will also join us again in exhibiting work by their faculty and students.

If you want to join us, there is still room!  Early bird registration ends on September 1 (only $25), and regular registration ends September 12 ($40).  Details can be found here.

We look forward to another successful Tour this year!

This year we produced a full-color catalog that features all of our artists and exhibits, with a map of the tour in the middle.  Be sure to pick one of these up at any of the stops.   We also have created a Google Map of the tour this year, to make it simple to navigate from one place to the next.   See both versions of the tour map on our MAP page.

Look for these signs inviting you to come in to our studios and take a look around!

As you’re driving around, keep an eye out for our art tour signs to help you find the studios and exhibit spaces.

As we prepare for our 5th Annual Studio tour this fall, we are calling for artists in Frisco and the surrounding area to join us.

The Studio Tour is city-wide annual event that connects working artists with the community.  Since 2011, we have been showcasing artists in their studios along with group shows at local galleries all over town.

Thegallery8680 has been a partner of the tour since the beginning, and has been a staple of the art community in Frisco for over six years.  They will kick off the tour with their group show “ecology,” at our annual Kickoff Party on October 9 from 7-9pm.  The Kickoff Party has always been a fun way to see the newest show and meet many of the Studio Tour artists all in one spot. The exhibit at thegallery8680 will also be open during the tour on October 18 and 19.

This year we are happy to have some new art added to our tour.  Collin College has joined us this year, adding a group of fresh faces to our event. We will also have the Art in the Atrium exhibit at City Hall as part of the tour, which features dozens of regional artists.  The Visual Arts Guild of Frisco will have their annual Fall Member Show at the Frisco Discovery Center on display.  We also have some great venues downtown that are hosting artists:  Eight11 Place and Artist Envy are returning to the tour from last year, and their neighbor Frisco Farm Stop has recently come on board.

We’re excited about how the tour is growing this year!  We’re still looking for more artists, so if you’re interested in being a part of this fun event, check out the Artist Sign Up Page for more info.  The deadline for entries is July 31 at midnight.

We are also looking for SPONSORS for our event. We will be producing our beautiful full-color maps, and a catalog featuring all of our artists and our sponsors.   If you’re an individual or business that loves to support the arts, please consider sponsoring the ArtSeen tour this year.  Sponsorships start at just $50, and you can find out more info HERE.

This year we’re adding a new feature to the tour:  FRISCO ART WEEK (October 9 – 18).  Art Week will start with the Kickoff Party on Friday, October 9 at thegallery8680, and will end with the studio tour on Sunday, October 18.  We are looking for artists and arts events to celebrate the visual arts that week.  If you have an art event (show, lecture, class, etc.)  you’d like to host during that week, please contact us to join.  We ask that these events complement the idea of art in the community.    If you have a proposal for an event, contact us at artseenhere@gmail.com or 214-384-7200.  Deadline for submissions is September 15.

Frisco has a growing arts community and we are so excited to see our tour grow as well.  Come join us!

It’s time to start thinking about our fall Studio Tour!  You’re invited to our informational meeting on Sunday, May 3 at 4:00pm at thegallery8680 (8680 W. Main Street, Frisco, TX  75033).  This coincides with the closing reception for thegallery8680’s current show: Place (from 2-4pm), so maybe if you get there a little early, you can see that show, too!

This will be our 5th year for the studio tour, and we have plans to make it even better.  We’d love to spend an hour chatting about our vision for the tour.   We hope to have lots of exhibiting artists, shows and even some art ‘happenings’ this year.   Let’s talk about it in person next Sunday!
If you know someone who may be interested learning about the tour, please invite them, even if they live outside of Frisco.  We want to make this tour a huge event, so the more the merrier!  We encourage those of you with studios to find some artists to host, and those who need a place to exhibit, to get creative!  This town has so much potential, and it needs some creative types to shake it up a bit!
If you need some inspiration on WHY studio tours are important, and what an amazing Studio Tour can look like, check out the East Austin Studio Tour  (great video!), and the West Austin Studio Tour — something to inspire to.  My family hit the EAST tour back in November and it was amazing — there were so many places to see art!  And the artists were uninhibited and didn’t conform to ideals on how and where they showed their work; and they not only had fine art, but all types of creative work (metal work, graphics, etc.) Let that inspire us to expand our ideas of what this can be.
Meeting: Sunday, May 3, 4pm at thegallery8680.
Early Bird registration discounts through May 31.

“Water” at thegallery8680

august 5th– september 11th

Cypress Creek by Misty Oliver Foster

We may be having a drought right now, but there is no shortage of water at thegallery8680.

“Water,”  thegallery8680’s newest show, opens this Friday night.  The exhibit, curated by gallery director Robyn Parker Feehan, features dozens of diverse works of art, displaying each artist’s interpretation of water.

Previous shows have been selected by invitation only, but this is thegallery8680’s first show that included an open call for artists.  The gallery received submissions from all over North Texas, and is featuring several artists who are new to showing in Frisco.

Feehan even used her connections with artists in other parts of the world to secure a series of paintings from Australian artist Lavinia Hobbs, which feature the lifestyle of Madagascar.

Smile at Night by Lavinia Hobbs

When explaining her interest for the theme of water, Feehan explains, “Water is our life source, our most precious resource.  We use it for recreation and survival.”

Paintings, drawings, photography, prints and mixed media works all explore the many uses and visions of water around the world.

Wily the Whale by Renee Brown

Take time to cool off and join the party Friday night, with artwork set to the backdrop of the sultry Caribbean sound of Tania Cordobes.

The Opening Reception is this Friday, August 5th 2011 from 7:00pm – 9:00pm at thegallery8680, 8680 Main Street, Frisco 75034.  The show continues through September 11.  For more information, contact Robyn at the information below.

let’s get the ball rolling

Things are changing around here.   For the innocent bystander, you might not notice anything yet.   Daily life looks the same on the surface.   But if you’re an artist in 75034, then you’ve started to feel the rumble of something exciting.  A buzz is in the air.  People are starting to talk.  And the rest of our town had better hold on.

So far this year, we’ve seen two large art shows, with very well-attended receptions.  The Visual Arts Guild of Frisco had a blowout attendance at their member show at the Discovery Center last month.  They’ve seen a huge increase in membership in the past year, and the talent of the group is truly unmatched in North Texas.

VAGF Member Show

VAGF Member Show February 2011

Thegallery8680 is a fairly new gallery space on Main Street that is featuring  local artists, as well as bringing in artists from all over Texas.  Director Robyn Parker Feehan has a vision to help advance both emerging and established artists, and so far her shows have been very successful.  There was even an art festival downtown earlier this month, and despite the cold weather, some of our artists had good sales.   Not so bad for the first few months of the year.

Our town may be known right now for it’s good schools, nice neighborhoods, sports venues and shopping.  But you just wait.  Something exciting is brewing.  If you’re an artist, this is the time to catch the train.  If you’re not, then it’s time to pay attention to the art ‘seen’ around you.  You don’t want to miss this.
