2016 ArtSeen Tour Call for Artists

ArtSeen Tour — October 15 & 16 — noon-5pm both days.

The time has come – we are now registering our artists for the 2016 ArtSeen Tour.  This is our 6th year, and we continue to grow and improve.   We are limiting the Tour geographically this year to only Downtown Frisco, along Main Street from Preston Road to the Dallas North Tollway.  This has been the heart of our Tour in years past, and we feel that by condensing our artists, we can make it easy for guests to see all of the artists easily.

The tour will begin at thegallery8680 and Crafted on the east end of Main Street,  and move west to Fresh Paint Studio, downtown merchants, Frisco Square, Art in the Atrium at City Hall and the Frisco Discovery Center.  We have artists in galleries, exhibits, home studios, and some hosted by downtown merchants and other out-of-the-box locations.  Collin College will also join us again in exhibiting work by their faculty and students.

If you want to join us, there is still room!  Early bird registration ends on September 1 (only $25), and regular registration ends September 12 ($40).  Details can be found here.

We look forward to another successful Tour this year!

Thegallery8680’s newest exhibition “Out of the Studio” opened Friday, October 10 at our dual-purpose party:  Artists’ Reception and the official Kickoff of the ArtSeen Studio Tour.

Mixed Media work by Kimberly Etheridge-Reid.

Three artists have come together to exhibit their work, “Out of the Studio,” and all have close ties to Frisco.  Theresa Traweek and Rebecca Reagan Boatman are both professors of art at our Collin College Preston Ridge Campus, and Kimberly Etherington-Reid is a former student there.

Traweek and Etherington-Reid recently spent a summer painting together.  While their mutual influence is evident, both artists bring their own fresh, layered style to the show. Theresa’s large, mixed media paintings are fascinating to examine closely, yet their depth is fully appreciated from across the room.  Kim’s work explores both traditional painting media and also the use of paper as a painting tool.

Rebecca Reagan Boatman’s work “is influenced by reliquaries which are containers of sacred objects.”  Many of her mixed media sculptures are like Venus figures, that have been unearthed from a mysterious pre-historic tribe.  As you study these figures and containers, you find hidden treasures, symbols of our universal human experience.

If you didn’t get a chance to see this show, it’s a must-see on this weekend’s Studio Tour*.  Look for thegallery8680 at stop #10 on our tour MAP.  It’s conveniently located on Main Street in the Crestview Professional Center.  There is extra parking in the back, if the front lot is full.

*Please note that the exhibit hours will be 1pm – 5pm on Sunday, since the gallery also functions as a church meeting space on Sunday mornings for TrueNorth Church.  Exhibit hours on Saturday are still 11am – 5pm.

Thanks for the memories!

Thank you to everyone who came out to our 2nd annual artseen studio tour!  We had a great time seeing new faces, and familiar ones!

Here are a couple of photos of some of the artseen artists from the kickoff party at thegallery8680.  As always, there was a great crowd at the reception, and some art sales, too!

Photo: This is a crazy looking group! It's most of the artists from the artseen tour. If you missed the tour today, there's still time tomorrow from 1-5 to see them in their studios. www.artseenhere.com

Check it out- we were photobombed by Frida Kahlo!

And thanks to local artist Cheryl Gee — she came out to the tour, and gave us a great review on her blog.  Check it out at HERE.

Did you come out for the tour?  We’d love to have your comments on our blog.

We’re looking forward to a great tour next year!
