2016 ArtSeen Tour Call for Artists

ArtSeen Tour — October 15 & 16 — noon-5pm both days.

The time has come – we are now registering our artists for the 2016 ArtSeen Tour.  This is our 6th year, and we continue to grow and improve.   We are limiting the Tour geographically this year to only Downtown Frisco, along Main Street from Preston Road to the Dallas North Tollway.  This has been the heart of our Tour in years past, and we feel that by condensing our artists, we can make it easy for guests to see all of the artists easily.

The tour will begin at thegallery8680 and Crafted on the east end of Main Street,  and move west to Fresh Paint Studio, downtown merchants, Frisco Square, Art in the Atrium at City Hall and the Frisco Discovery Center.  We have artists in galleries, exhibits, home studios, and some hosted by downtown merchants and other out-of-the-box locations.  Collin College will also join us again in exhibiting work by their faculty and students.

If you want to join us, there is still room!  Early bird registration ends on September 1 (only $25), and regular registration ends September 12 ($40).  Details can be found here.

We look forward to another successful Tour this year!

artseen logo 2014

It’s that time again — time to get ready for the 2014 ArtSeen Studio Tour. Our artist sign-up is now live.

What is the Studio Tour?  It’s a time for our local artists to open their workspaces to the public, allowing you to meet the artists in a casual atmosphere, ask them questions, and even observe them as they work.   Some studios are in the artists’ homes, some are outside their homes, and some artists pair up with another artist during the tour.  There are also other local shows to see, such as the Visual Arts Guild‘s Fall Member Show and a group show at thegallery8680.

We’ll add details on our 2014 Studio Tour page, so check back often.  If you are interested in joining this year’s tour as an exhibiting artist, see our sign up page.  As always, you can contact Misty at artseenhere@gmail.com if you have questions.

AITS – new and improved

Arts in the Square

Rumor has it that this year’s Arts in the Square is going to be better than ever.  Now in it’s fifth year, this springtime festival in Frisco Square has been steadily building momentum, and is seeing a few subtle – but important- changes this year.

We all know that Frisco is all about community, so the folks at Frisco Square have really found a way connect the artisans,  businesspeople, adults and children of our town for this year’s event. They will highlight more local and regional artists and craftspeople (as opposed to ‘international’ artists) this year.  They are also inviting the FISD art teachers and students to showcase their talents in their very own booths.  There will be performances from adult and student groups throughout the weekend, drawing in a wide range of audiences.  And, of course, Frisco Square has other great attractions, such as the Cinemark movie theater and fantastic restaurants, so the foot traffic for the festival is ideal.  Overall, it’s a more approachable, community-friendly event that is expected to draw the largest crowds yet.

And if that’s not enough, this year’s proceeds will benefit Frisco Family Services and Frisco Education Foundation, two very worthy causes in the community.

If you’ve been considering exhibiting in this festival, then this is a great time to join in.  Arts in the Square is a juried fine arts and crafts festival, with cash prizes in the following categories: fine arts/graphics, pottery, textiles, glass, jewelry, leather, metal, photography, wood and miscellaneous.

The festival dates are March 29 – 30 in Frisco Square (Main St. & Dallas N. Tollway).  For more information, visit www.friscosquare.com/AITS.

ARTISTS:  The deadline for submitting is Friday, January 24 at 5:00pm – (only a week away!)  There are still booths available, but you need to get your submissions in soon.   Applications are through www.zapplication.org.  You will need 3 good photos of your work, plus one booth shot.  If you haven’t participated in a festival before, that’s ok!  For the booth shot, just take a photo of a group of your work hanging on a simple wall, to show that you have a solid body of work.  You can do it!   Give yourself plenty of time to get your application together (i. e.  — start now).

Please pass along this to anyone who may be interested in showing their work in Frisco — there are still booths available. The cost is $300 for a 10 x 10′ space, and you can apply at Zapplication.org.

Lee will be in attendance on opening night, Saturday, February 11th from 7-10pm, with the exhibition “Annie Lee: A Texas Farewell” featuring over 18 of her new acrylic paintings. The art in the exhibition focuses on everyday details from years gone by and solitary figures on the walk of life.

Lee’s often humorous, satirical style of painting has been termed “Black Americana.” She names Will Smith, Bill Cosby and Eddie Murphy as just a few of her notable collectors.  Lee has been living and painting in Texas for the last 6 years and now intends to return to Las Vegas where she once owned a 10,000 square foot art gallery.

The exhibition “Annie Lee: A Texas Farewell” is but a small outpouring of  well wishes towards Lee and her new endeavors.  The exhibition will be on display through March 7th.  (info provided by Laura Moore Fine Art Studios)
