Thegallery8680’s newest exhibition “Out of the Studio” opened Friday, October 10 at our dual-purpose party: Artists’ Reception and the official Kickoff of the ArtSeen Studio Tour.
Three artists have come together to exhibit their work, “Out of the Studio,” and all have close ties to Frisco. Theresa Traweek and Rebecca Reagan Boatman are both professors of art at our Collin College Preston Ridge Campus, and Kimberly Etherington-Reid is a former student there.
Traweek and Etherington-Reid recently spent a summer painting together. While their mutual influence is evident, both artists bring their own fresh, layered style to the show. Theresa’s large, mixed media paintings are fascinating to examine closely, yet their depth is fully appreciated from across the room. Kim’s work explores both traditional painting media and also the use of paper as a painting tool.
Rebecca Reagan Boatman’s work “is influenced by reliquaries which are containers of sacred objects.” Many of her mixed media sculptures are like Venus figures, that have been unearthed from a mysterious pre-historic tribe. As you study these figures and containers, you find hidden treasures, symbols of our universal human experience.
If you didn’t get a chance to see this show, it’s a must-see on this weekend’s Studio Tour*. Look for thegallery8680 at stop #10 on our tour MAP. It’s conveniently located on Main Street in the Crestview Professional Center. There is extra parking in the back, if the front lot is full.
